A  State trooper was seriously inured after a crash in Campbell earlier today.

According to New York State Police, the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on I-86 Westbound, near Exit 42. The trooper had pulled a vehicle over when the patrol car he was in was hit by a pickup truck.

The name of the trooper has not been released. He was airlifted to University of Rochester Medical Center with serious injuries.

The picture below has been circulating on social media, and serves as a reminder to motorists to move in to the opposite lane and slow down then they see any emergency vehicle pulled over on the side of the highway.

Judging by that picture, it was a pretty square hit too.

The identity of the officer is Trooper Craig Foglia,  a 13-year-veteran of the New York State Police assigned to Troop E, Painted Post.

Kenneth Aukett, of New Jersey, was driving the pickup that struck Foglia's car.  He was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre with non life threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.

Don't know how the driver of that P/U walked away from that!  Modern vehicles and their crumple zones, all that energy was directed away from the passenger compartment.
