On Tuesday at approximately 12:30pm Elmira Police department was dispatched to a report of gunshots in the area of West Hudson Street and South Walnut Street. When officers arrived on scene they determined that two individuals were involved in an altercation leading up to the gunshots and that an uninvolved passing vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
Other evidence of the shooting was also recovered at the scene.
The intended victim of the shooting was located and interviewed however, was not cooperative with the investigation.
Then on Wednesday, Elmira Police Department arrested 20 year old Josè E Polanco, a 20-f Elmira in connection with this case. Police say they located Polenco at a residence in
the 300 block of Broadway Street where he was taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was conducted at the residence however, the weapon in this case has not been recovered. Polanco was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (class C Felony) and is being held pending arraignment.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further details will be released at this time. Police say no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered.
