VAN ETTEN – A Pittsburgh man was killed after crashing his car in the Town of Van Etten.
According to Chemung County Sheriff William Schrom, deputies were called to a motor vehicle accident on Barnes Hill Road in Van Etten. On arrival they were advised that 30 year old Brandon Gregurich of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania had been ejected from the vehicle and was trapped underneath.
Crews from Community Fire and Rescue worked to free Gregurich from under the vehicle and confirmed that Gregurich was deceased.
The Sheriff’s Department says that the preliminary investigation indicated that Gregurich had left a residence on Kelley Road, also in the Town of Van Etten at around 7:30 AM. He was driving a gray 2012 Subaru Legacy.
At the time of the accident, he appears to have lost control of his vehicle, going off the shoulder of the road, striking and breaking a utility pole. Deputies report that the vehicle sustained heavy damage as a result. No other vehicles were involved, and no one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Police say that speed, vehicle condition, and alcohol may have been factor in the collision.
In addition to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department and Community Fire and Rescue, Erway Ambulance as well as the Chemung County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Department asks that anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area prior to the accident contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 607-737-2933
