Steuben County Sheriff Warns Of Potential Scam

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, the public should be on the lookout for a person going door to door in an apparent scam to collect personal information.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on Tuesday, it was reported that a
person who identified herself as a member of the “Board of Elections” visited a person in the
Urbana area, in her home, asking personal identification questions.

When asked to provide identification from the Board of Elections, this person displayed none and then left the premises.

Sheriff Allard says that according to the Steuben County Board of Elections Commissioners, no home visits are done to ascertain personal information by any actual member of the Steuben County Board of Elections.

Allard says that should you encounter any person falsely representing themselves as
members of the Steuben County Board of Elections ( or any county ) at your home or otherwise, you are encouraged to contact 911 and report this criminal impersonation.
