ELMIRA – No one was injured in a house fire that happened in the City of Elmira this afternoon.
According to Elmira Fire Department Chief Andrew Mallow, at approximately 1:30 this afternoon, Elmira Fire Department was dispatched to 375 W. Gray Street for a possible house explosion with entrapment.
Upon arrival crews found the two story, multi unit apartment house with heavy fire coming from the rear first and second floors. Firefighters entered the building and were able to bring the bulk of the fire under control within approximately 30 minutes. The department remained on scene extinguishing hot spots in the attic until approximately 4:30.
Chief Mallow says the structure sustained significant fire damage as well as smoke and water damage.
Some occupants were home at the time of the fire and were able to exit the building safely.
The Elmira Fire Department was assisted by West Elmira Fire Department as well as Elmira Police, and Erway Ambulance.
The fire is under investigation at this time by N.Y. State Fire, Elmira Fire, and Elmira Police
Department Investigation Crews.
