My plan – actually my public vow – was to post something at least once a week, and I missed last week. Normally that would cause a bit of angst, but I feel like the reason is legit:
I published my first book!
Yes, it’s self-published. Yes, it took more than a decade.
No, I don’t care.
I have a book I wrote, with my name on the cover and my picture on the back, that I can hold in my hands.
And that’s pretty cool. And pretty worth missing a week of posting.
For those who don’t know, my writing “career” started in high school, covering sports events for our local paper. My first paying gig came when I was 16. And I’ve been a paid writer ever since. So seeing my name in print isn’t new.
But this is different. This is a book. And yes, it took a while, and hundreds of agent and publisher rejections – writers, this is frustratingly normal – but it’s done. And in print.
I’ll talk more about the process next time. For now, I’m still feeling the glow, and I think I’ll bask a little longer. Thanks for indulging.
