Elmira Teen Injured In Overnight Shooting

ELMIRA – Police are investigating a shooting which happened early Wednesday morning in the City of Elmira.

According to Elmira Police Department, at around 1am officers were called for report of a shooting on Franklin Street on the city’s south side. While searching the area, police located a gunshot victim in the area of Herrick and Franklin Streets. Police say the victim, a seventeen year old male from Elmira, had sustained two non-life threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The investigation revealed numerous bullet holes in a nearby residence with evidence of the shooting in and around the residence. A search warrant was obtained and inside police found two firearms. Police determined that at least twenty bullets had been fired during this incident, and by more than one shooter.

During the investigation, police utilized the department’s drone as well as a K9 tracking unit from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department. Elmira Police were also assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, Elmira Heights and West Elmira Police Departments.

The investigation is still on going and police are releasing no further information at this time.
