NEWFIELD – Police are investigating an incident which left two men dead on State Route 13 in the Town Of Newfield this weekend.
According to New York State Police, on Friday at around 9:35pm, 42 year old Patrick Robinson of Ithaca lost control of his motorcycle on the wet pavement. This resulted in the motorcycle being “laid down”, meaning it was laid on its side and slid in an effort to reduce or avoid a collision.
A passerby, 34 year old Mathew J. Poplawski of Schenectady witnessed this and stopped to assist Robinson. However a vehicle, driven by an unidentified 57 year old man from Illinois, struck both men, killing them.
Police say that the driver of the third vehicle is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing, and at this time alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
