Woodhull Man Charged With Receiving Money Fraudulently

WOODHULL – A Steuben County man was arrested for fraudulently receiving money he was not entitled to from Social Services.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 6th, 2023, Deputies of the
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54 year old Joseph P. Duell pf Woodhull. It is alleged that from January 2022 to November 2022, Duell knowingly and with intent to defraud, presented false documents to the Steuben County Department of Social
Services and received benefits of $9,166 that he was not entitled to.

Duell was charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a class E Felony, Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, a class E Felony and Grand Larceny in the Third degree, a class D Felony. He was arrested on a Superior Court Warrant issued by Steuben County Court, arraigned in Steuben County Court and released.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
